Please help GHD flat iron problems:?

A little over a year ago i got a GHD flat iron and already it is not working. I've heard that there is a 5 year warranty but i no longer have the reciept or papers because my old hairstylist went out and bought it for me withg her discount. Every time i turn on the flat iron it crackles and then constantly turns on and off, not properly heating up or even working correctly. I ume it might just be a cord problem but I'm not sure. Is there any hope for my $250 flat iron or will I be stuck with curly hair till who knows when?
