What is your intent when you ask a question?

When I ask a question I want people to give it serious thought when they answer. I want them to look at something they may not have looked at before and examine it carefully. I don't care whether it calls them to question their personal beliefs or strengthens them -- there again, questioning can lead to strengthening. I just want people to *think* about why they believe what they believe. I have no interest in making them believe what I believe.
