Power on sticks on HP desktop?

The power on on my father's HP desktop computer tower gets stuck when depressed and he wants to know if he can use WD-40 to loosen it up. He says he can get it unstuck with his pocket knife. Is there a safe lubricant he can use to loosen up the on?
