Why is the encoding wrong when i try to open word doents from the internet?

Whenever i try to open a word doent from the internet, the encoding is not right. The whole doent too. Ive never had this problem before and i tried changing the encoding but it still didnt make any sense. Ive tried all of the encodings that the doent would be in (its just english, it should be automatically coded right anyway) but none work. Any suggestions?
